Nutrition can be tough. There’s a TON of information out there and always at least three fad diets vying for attention and touting how and why their way is the best.

I like to simplify things as much as possible, both for the people I train as well as for my own sanity.

The following are the nutrition rules I live by.

  1. Eat small meals (less than 500 cal)
  2. Eat meat and veggies
  3. No food within 3 hours of bedtime
  4. No carbs after 3pm
  5. Drink lots of fluids (1 gal/day minimum)

Eat when you’re hungry but do not stuff yourself stupid.

Eat tactically.

Eat meat and veggies. You don’t need more than that. No cookies, crackers, carb-heavy hyper-palatble chemical concoctions. This is NOT what a Bear Killer eats.

A Bear Killer eats meat, veggies, nuts, seeds, and berries.

If you’re gonna have carbs eat them earlier in the day. A little bit of carbs at night will spark a carb-crazy feeding frenzy and we don’t need that.

Fighting the carb-crazies is a losing battle.

Stay hydrated. Sometimes we confuse “thirsty” for “hungry” and snacking happens. Besides, staying hydrated will aid in recovery and allow your body to perform optimally.

Give yourself the best shot at success by drinking plenty of water.

If you keep to these rules I promise you’ll make progress. There’s a lot of science to back this up and these rules can be applied a number of ways.

Training + Nutrition + Sleep = Success
